Let's go over a few truly tasty treats I've had in the past, some may be discontinued and some may be still around today - All I know is that these were treats I loved, treats I remembered through all the years and crave today. That emptiness inside my stomach may never again be filled by these delicious delights but my memories will be sated as I share their stories with you, the reader;

General Mills Golden Grahams Treats:
Following the example of the ever popular Rice Krispie Treats, Golden Grahams Treats were incredibly delicious cereal snacks that truly mixed the best parts of a candy bar and a cereal I considered to be an excellent junk-food to begin with into a perfect mutated mess of a beautiful bar. Amazingly they're not hard like you'd expect, they're actually soft with the same consistency as a Rice Krispie Treat and let me just say. Oh for all that is good in the world these were yummy, Graham, Honey, Chocolate and Marshmallow all mixed together into one chunky bar which sat upon a bed of delightfully sweet (but not too sweet) chocolate, just soft enough and chewy enough to last for a good few strong chews while being firm and crunchy enough to give you the undeniable sensation that there was definitely cereal in there. I'm fairly certain these were discontinued, I haven't seen them in forever, it's another thing that makes me oh so sad because my god were these ever good. If someone brought one home for me now or sent me one I'd be dearly indebted to them.

Reese's Elvis Peanut Butter & Banana Creme Cups:
Elvis was a very attractive and sexy man early on in his life, Elvis had excellent taste and that excellent taste eventually lead him to becoming a very unhealthy man later on in his life.. The important thing is not that he was unhealthy, it's that his taste was excellent, the concoction he created still popular today was the Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich and frankly I'm right there with him. Goddamn brilliant, Sir. Angels should salute you and you should earn a place in the brightest of lights and the best of places in whatever after-life I hope there is because you fucking deserve it for having created such a delicious monstrosity. Little would Elvis know however that his creation would later be adapted and modified into the deliciousness that was the Reese's Peanut Butter & Banana Creme Cup. Let me start by saying that as I type this half of the blog entry the simple thought of this snack is making my mouth water and making me a little hot and bothered.. Oh my frickin' god these were SO good I'd beat you to death with your own grandma used as a meat-based beat down stick to have another one. Of the few packages of these I was blessed enough to have the last one I had the mistake of having left in the freezer because it was a warm night and they had partially melted and let me stop and tell you now. Oh. My. Goodness.. Some mistakes are just golden - A frozen Peanut Butter & Banana Creme Cup must be the end all of peanut butter delights, this was unbelievable. While in it's normal form the Reese's Peanut Butter & Banana Creme Cups were delicious with the roasted taste of the peanut butter, the sweetness of the chocolate (and the cup shape which adds something to it's palatable nature) and then the banana creme which hit you like a ton of bricks, soft and not so artificial it was almost like a sweetened puree of banana while not being quite as smooth it is PURELY GODLY - Frozen they were just.. Beyond God tier.. Frozen the banana flavour loses a little of it's ting but becomes almost ice-cream like, sort of like a frozen custard or something of that nature and the texture of the actual candy? Oh god.. It improves a thousand fold, if I had a single package of these left over I'd freeze and eat them like that in a heartbeat and worship whomever got them to me with extreme zealotry. Elvis, you were a great man.

Hershey's ZERO bar:
I don't know if these are discontinued, I don't know if they're still sold, I just know that I haven't noticed them and I haven't had one in years and that this makes me a sad Big Cat. You know my love of coconut, banana and chocolate, what do I love more than normal chocolate though? WHITE CHOCOLATE. Now I know there are those out there that vehemently hate white chocolate with an intense fervor but hear me out, I love it and I think it's one of the single greatest achievements of man-kind and it saddens me to realize and think that in my life-span I have seen but only a few candy bars which featured the all-mighty and all-rare white chocolate deliciousness that I sought.. But imagine my delight and disbelief when I discovered the decadence that is the Zero Bar.
I know originally the Zero Bar was launched in 1920 and that the last time I saw one was 1996-1997 - That's the last Zero Bar I can come to memory to having eaten and I desperately wish I could find one today. It's not just white chocolate, no. If it was just white chocolate this bar wouldn't be the last item on my blog-list because I wouldn't consider it to be the best that was saved for last, the Zero Bar is an amazing and unbelievable candy bar consisting of creamy caramel, perfect peanuts and angelic almond nougat all covered with a whimsical white fudge, WHITE FUDGE!!!! Oh god, oh god, oh god YESSSS! ...Ahem... And sorry about that, I had a moment.. Need I state the obvious and point out that I in my obsession with freezing things did in fact freeze one of these bars in the past and make no mistake I'm of the firm belief and have been most of my life that nothing like this doesn't benefit from being frozen. A frozen Zero bar? Zero regrets.. Except for the fact that soon after being removed from the freezer there would be zero Zero Bars. I must find if these are still sold and somehow acquire one. By all that is holy and cat-like if I have to hold up some poor store clerk with a pissed off rabid squirrel, I will. Why a pissed off rabid squirrel? Because I can't find any fucking cacti around here! That's why!
Dinner:
I am happy to say that dinner came out considerably nicer tonight, though the Anpan still decided it was going to mutate in the oven.. Something I've done with the dough this time around (since I don't follow a uniform recipe and I make the dough by 'feeling it out') is a bit different and it's not baking the same as it usually bakes resulting in from time to time an 'eruption' of sorts where it's inner filling of Anko (Sweet Red Bean Paste) bursts out like so much oozing puss.. Anyway.. Tonights meal is called Amai pinku no niwatori (Sweet Pink Chicken) and was fairly successful;
In the end it came out looking so-so, I'm not horribly excited but I'm not terribly disappointed, I'm just kind of 'meh'. I'm hoping I'll recapture my stride soon and make a meal I'm really proud of but frankly I've just felt kind of underwhelmed by them lately.. Then again I've been in a little bit of an odd funk so that's probably affecting me, not really sure what's wrong to be perfectly honest, I just feel so low on energy and optimism.

"I'd beat you to death with your own grandma used as a meat-based beat down stick" <- I just died laughing at that visual, rofl! xD
I was hesitant at the thought of these but after reading further, I've become sorta curious. =/
White chocolate technically isn't chocolate if i remember right but it's still damn good. e_e
Oooh~ Wish I had got to try one of those! :O
Lol, rabid squirrels and cacti. Interesting choice of weaponry~ xD
Very pink.
Looks tasty at least. -shrug-
...You didn't know that, Lu? I thought that was common knowledge. Yes, Elvis Presley invented the Peanut Butter and Banana sandwich. He was a brilliant man worthy of culinary recognition for that one.
ReplyDeleteI fucking would!
Most white chocolate isn't chocolate, no.. But it's still delicious and I'd still kill for a few more Zero bars. If you maple syrup lovin' yahoo's in Canada find any, send me some!
The Golden Graham Treats are currently available at Costco! A friend of mine offered me on the other day and I had forgotten I had ever had them. As soon as I tasted them, however, I remembered them from my childhood! So good! Getting some at Costco today in fact!
ReplyDeleteInteresting.. I'll have to try and find those some day.
