DC REVIEW: Green Lantern The Animated Series (2011-2012)

So officially a one-hour 'sneak peak' premiered in 2011 and frankly as far as I'm concerned anything exceeding five minutes is more than sneak peak, an hour is two goddamn episodes and it was.. So as far as I'm concerned this series officially started in 2011 and not 2012 in spite of whatever corporate heads want to say.. Corporate heads can bite me..

...Maybe not though.. I might get a disease or something.. Yeck.. Corporate-itis..

It's no secret, I'm a huge fan of Green Lantern and as a side bit of trivia my favourite Oath happens to belong to Jack T. Chance of the Green Lantern Core and goes a little something like this;

"You who are wicked, evil and mean, I'm the nastiest creep you've ever seen. Come one, come all, put up a fight. I'll pound your butts with Green Lanterns Light! Yowza!"
I'm quoting this from memory mind you and as for Jack T. Chance? This is him;

I myself have even come up with my very own personal Green Lantern Oath which goes;

"With Emerald light that shines so bright
I smack down all the villains I sight
With fang and claw I fiercely fight
Let evil tremble at this Big Cats mewing might!"

But anyway.. Back to the subject of the series..

I'm not sure yet what they're trying to do plot-wise, what they seem to be trying to do is their own 'unique' and 'original' version of the War of Light which recently ended in the comics ranging from Emerald Twilight and the Parallax Crisis to Darkest Night, Brightest Day, Final Crisis so on and so fourth.. I'm not sure how they'll do that with a Cartoon Network show since some of the content in the comics was a wee bit heavy, I mean.. Death, blood, guts and the like galore.. This was some serious shit that went down, they even "killed" Batman, notice how I said "killed", yeah.. To understand you'd just have to read the comics, all I'll say is Batman gets hit by Darkseids Omega Sanction which he quotes as being the "Death that is life" or something to that effect, I can't remember off the top of my head exactly.. I just know that all this actually lead to insane shit like Darkseid actually getting his hands on the Anti-Life Equation and a ton of other crazy undead shenanigans..

It was a violent comic series and that's an understatement.. But it was also really good if slightly confusing.. I can say a few times I kind of wondered with all the different characters and all if I was reading the comics in the right order or not and whether something was actually relevant only to find later on that it indeed was and to have questions either cleared up or.. to.. simply be kind of forgotten and discarded because my sanity was worth more to me than that..

As a randomly inserted side note I'd like to express my love of the Rage Lantern Cat.. As a point, "I'm in ur Secturs killin' ur Lanturnz",

Violent and yet awesome shit.

The series largely follows Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Kilowog who are soon joined by a third member I won't name for the sake of spoiling.. Oh and the Artificial Intelligence computer of their hi-jacked super-Oa-tech ship who takes the name "Aya";

See the reason I can't figure out whether they're going to do the actual Light Wars story is because to do that they'd have to bring basically the whole gamut of DC Characters into the fray including some really obscure ones.. I mean we're talking the full Justice League and everyone as well as their Mother.. In some cases literally..

Also they made fucking Scarecrow a Sinestro Corps Lantern for a short period of time.. Yeah.. Super great idea guys, that's not gonna make anyone unfairly over-powered.. Luckily it's quickly remedied but still.. Shit..

Thus far we've watched to episode 4, I'm liking it so far. Bruce Timm worked on this series and if you're unaware, Bruce Timm is responsible for the animation in Batman The Animated Series and Superman The Animated Series so the man is a bit of a legend and his style is definitely noticeable even though the series is CGI, honestly I kind of like the CGI, I think it's fairly well animated and fairly high quality personally which is unique because normally I hate CGI.

I like the characters, I think they're fairly well done and true to form, it kind of irritated me that I didn't hear Kilowog say "Poozer" even once until the third episode in but he did come out with a rather epic quote which has become somewhat of a meme between James and I which is "I make hammers", yeah.. Kilowog makes hammers and that's just fine with me..

So far? I'm not going to rate the series yet but I'll say it's definitely worth taking a look at.. They've clearly avoided or it seems like they've clearly avoided certain things such as Atrocitus and his whole "Sector 666" thing

And they've clearly 'toned it down' a good bit.. But still.. It's good so far, I've been fairly pleased and I look forward to seeing more. I really hope it takes off because I'd hate to see it prematurely cancelled.. After all it's the first true 'series' since this..

Aaand.. Yeah.. That is sooo 1960s.. We're due for an upgrade here..

Dinner:
Tonight's dinner for James was Niwatori no Jagaimo and is a deliciously grilled CHICKEN BOOOOB! topped by a wonderful Savoury and Spicy Orange Sauce (home-made) with a bed of Potatoes all spiced by Herbs with a side Caramel Praline Anpan (Sweet Roll)
